Garissa healthcare system to reap big in extended UNICEF partnership
The Governor appreciated the organization's effort to support the healthcare sector.
Garissa County and UNICEF Kenya on Thursday agreed to extend their partnership to improve the healthcare sector in the county.
The county stated that the achievement came after a joint meeting between Governor Nathif Jama and the UNICEF country Representative Shaheen Nilofer.

The Governor appreciated the organization's effort to support the healthcare sector with the county having benefited from their previous partnership.
He mentioned achievements made previously through the support of UNICEF which included receiving nutrition commodities and capacity building, piloting of the Garissa primary health care services and water and sanitation programmes.
He further stated that support in health emergencies and reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health were achieved through their initial partnership.
"In the extension of the new partnership, the county government identified new areas of collaboration," the governor said.
He said UNICEF agreed to support in equipping the upcoming comprehensive 200-bed mother and child unit at the Garissa referral level 5 hospital.
Expansion of Medina Health centre to decongest Garissa level 5 hospital, and provision of Solar lighting in rural health facilities were also identified in the extended partnership.
According to the county government, other areas UNICEF agreed to support the county include the provision of ambulances, purchase of essential maternal and child health equipment and support for utility vehicles.
